Pinnacle CEO's 'Worst Comment Ever' Submission

A contender for 'Worst Comment of All Time' is today's quote from Pinnacle CEO Daniel Lee. In a Post-Dispatch story, Mr. Lee discusses the option to keep the President Casino, recently purchased by Pinnacle, open and operating right next door to the soon-to-be-opened Pinnacle Lumiere Place Casino. While many people see it as redundant and silly to have two casinos owned by the same company operating within a quarter-mile of each other, Mr. Lee sees it differently. He states, "it gives us a little bit of an edge that most people in the state don't have. You can lose $500 at Lumiere Place and walk two blocks away and start gambling again at the President."

Wow.

I'm so glad Mr. Lee is considering giving me the opportunity to come to his place of business and explaining how I can lose more money than by going to any other property in the state. Thanks for clearing that up, sir. If Pinnacle has a PR firm, they just got an "F" for media training.

  • Hahaha, that's awesome. I mean, unless you're affiliated with Pinnacle. :)

  • Let's think about this from outside the PR industry for a second:

Some CEO of some company promoting some new business idea made a stupid comment. Does it even matter?

When it comes to enterprises that are particularly addicting (read: alcohol, cigarettes, gambling), most people just don't care what's said. Knowing that alcohol gets you drunk and lets you make bad decisions is not going to stop anyone. The CEO of Phillip Morris could scream from the rooftops that cigarettes cause lung cancer...think there'd be a huge drop in people that smoke?

So this guy made a stupid comment by using the word "lose." Oops. How many people do you think will be offended (if that's what you want to call it) enough to stop gambling? How many will boycott the President and the Lumiere?

Exactly. I'll see you on the boats.

  • Ricky, by itself, this comment will not have the 'tar and feather him' effect you refer to. There will be no picket lines because of this remark (because of the business of gambling is another story). But that's not the point. Stupid comments build in the minds of people over time. Brands and reputations are built and destroyed based on repeated actions like this.

  • I think this that quote is really funny. Apparently the people running the place are complete idiots as I see it. I hear that working at Lumiere Place is going to be a complete nightmare. The dealers and probably everyone else working there have to show up an hour early to stand in line at wardrobe to get their uniforms and then dress at work and must remove their uniform before leaving the property. If an employee comes to work and the big wigs decide that one is having a bad hair day, the employee must go see the hairdresser, thus racking up points against them (which can get them fired) for being late to work and also getting docked pay. It sounds like Lumiere Place (light up the night) should actually be called Le Pue Place (stinking up the night) Wonder how long the emloyees will stay and put up with all that shit!!!! If I was a gambler I would continue to support the President Casino, at least they know how to treat their employees (even tho they will be part of the Pinnacle group)and the clients apparently love the employees there!!!!!!
